Avoid the app trap: my top 5 apps!

Let’s be honest- technology makes life easier if we know how to use it to our advantage.

Using technology to our advantage in the 21st century is the art of choosing application that enhances performance by tracking our goals and objectives and minimizing the time we waste on unproductive activities.

So, here are my top 5. Let me know what you think!

1. Evernote

Is my absolute favorite application without which my life would be a complete disorder. Evernote is an application that allows you to download your favorite websites onto one platform. Every time you browse online and you find a website that you think is useful, creative or informative, you can ‘clip it’ to your Evernote platform. To make files more organised you can group them together in themed folders. Additionally you can use Evernote as a sketchbook to write notes and make appointments. Finally last but not least, you can email and share files and information with colleagues, friends and family.

2. Dropbox

The concept is similar to that of Evernote, except for the fact that is more specific. Dropbox is an application that allows you save all your documents, photos, projects onto your Dropbox account and access them from any computer/iPad/smart phone. So don’t spend hours to back up your files and forget about your USB – download dropbox asap!

3.  Google Chrome

Is by far the most functional web browser to date! Chrome allows you to customize your page to tailor your specific needs. You can choose different extensions (applications) that appear as widgets on your browser top right corner and use them for different purposes. I for example chose the rss extension that in turn minimizes the time I take to subscribe to different sites and blogs of my particular interest. In addition I have a weheartit extension that I use every time I find an interesting website. Which extensions do you use??

4.     My fitness pall

This is an app I use on my iPhone to track my daily calorie consumption and exercise. The application is essentially an endless database of food and exercises. So every time you have your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, you type them in and see the calorie consumption and many times the nutritional content of a particular food you are eating. This application is especially useful if you want to loose or maintain weight as it allows you to type in your current weight and your target weight over a period of time and lets you keep an eye of how the food choices you make affect your progress.

5.    Feedly

Read news from your favorite websites as if you are reading a magazine. Remember the rss extension that I mentioned earlier? If you download the feedly app on your google chrome, all the texts from the websites you have subscribed to are then organized by feedly in to a neat and functional format- sort of like the one in a nice magazine. Feedly helps you keep all the information you care about together in separate categories. Featured themes are at the top and categories are on the right hand side so you can easily choose what you would like to read about. Feedly is also a smart app because it suggests you news you might like based on the news you have subscribed to.
